Kristin used a Bible search on the Internet to determine that the word “peace” appears in the NIV 247 times and in the KJV 420 times. The word “trust” appeast in the NIV 164 times and in the KJV 188 times.
We often “size” people up before we decide to trust them. An illustration comparing various sizes of socks, including those of an infant, a toddler, a woman, and a man, gives us the opportunity to imagine how big God’s socks might be. Someone who sees all people at all times and is in all places at all times might have REALLY big socks, don’t you think? So then why do we not trust God as much as we should? The Bible tells us multiple times that we should trust God with everything…never once telling us to trust other humans more than we trust Him.
God is sovereign and in control of every aspect of each of our lives.
Psalm 37: 1-9
1 Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
How do we grow our trust and learn to rely on Him? Through prayer…asking Him continuously to help us to trust Him for all things.
